Meet The Team
Tia Payne is a rising senior at Santiago High School, where she is a member of the dance team. She loves to spend her free time reading books and her all time favorite author is Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. Her Japanese immigrant mother has inspired her to celebrate her Japanese heritage and fight for Asian & Pacific Islander American rights through the Japanese American Citizen's League (JACL), as well as advocate for immigrant rights.
Sneha Korat is an upcoming senior at Santiago High School who has been voicing cultural awareness through the Bollywood Dance Club on campus and through Saurashtra Patel Cultural Samaj (SPCS) outside of school. While sharing her own Indian heritage, she has also been advocating for other minority groups in her community and hopes to create awareness and empathy for minorities through the Diverse Perspectives Book Club.
Jenneh Gbondo is an incoming senior at Santiago High School, where she is the goalie of the Girls Water Polo team. As a member of the Black Student Union (BSU) and youth president of the United Brothers and Sisters of Sierra Leone (UBSSL) she strives to create a rise in cultural sensitivity and knowledge in her community and peers. As a first generation American, Jenneh recognizes the importance of representation in the media, especially in books, as a prime source of educational motivation in youth. Through the Diverse Perspectives Book Club she hopes to help widen the scope of learning for all.
